Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Article Processing Charges (APCs) constitute the primary funding mechanism for open-access scholarly publishing. The Nigerian Journal of Science and Environment (NJSE) adopts a modest APC policy to support its editorial processes, peer review management, production, online hosting, archiving, and unrestricted public access to published articles.

Why We Charge APCs

NJSE is an Open Access journal committed to making all published articles freely available to readers worldwide without subscription or access fees. As a self-supporting journal that receives no financial support from government agencies or external organizations, the journal's operations are sustained solely through author processing and publication fees.

These charges enable NJSE to maintain a rigorous peer-review process, editorial management, copyediting, typesetting, online publication, long-term digital preservation, and continuous improvement of its publishing infrastructure. By adopting the Open Access publishing model, authors benefit from greater visibility, accessibility, citation potential, and global dissemination of their research.

New APC Policy

Effective immediately, all manuscripts submitted to the Nigerian Journal of Science and Environment (NJSE) are subject to the following payment policy:

  • ₦15,000.00 manuscript processing/handling charge, payable upon submission of a manuscript. This fee covers the administrative processing and peer-review management of the manuscript and is non-refundable, irrespective of the editorial decision.
  • ₦30,000.00 publication fee for authors based in Nigeria, payable only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.
  • US$100 publication fee for authors based outside Nigeria, payable upon acceptance for publication.

Payment instructions will be communicated to authors at the appropriate stage of the editorial process.

Publication Process After Acceptance

Following acceptance of a manuscript, authors will receive a galley proof for review within a few weeks. Authors are expected to carefully proofread and make only essential corrections before returning the corrected proof to the editorial office. Upon receipt of the corrected proof and confirmation of publication fee payment, the article will be scheduled for publication.

Please note that no further corrections or modifications to the article will be permitted after publication.

Publication Frequency

The Nigerian Journal of Science and Environment (NJSE) publishes three issues annually:

  • Issue 1: January – April
  • Issue 2: May – August
  • Issue 3: September – December

Current and archived issues are available on the NJSE website at https://njse.org.ng/default.aspx.
